First oil is flowing from a new Libyan field operated by Zallaf Oil & Gas Company.

The news is yet another sign of reviving fortunes in Libya’s E&P sector which appears to be recovering from the worst excesses of civil war, despite tensions between the eastern and western areas of the country, which are governed separately.

According to state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) — which owns Zallaf — the Chadar field is currently producing 1500 barrels per day of oil and more than 7.5 million cubic feet per day of associated gas.

The NOC said in a statement issued on Monday that these production rates were reached on the first day from the A1-A well.

Libya’s oil output at the end of 2024 was just over 1.4 million bpd, according to Reuters .

Chadar is located in the NC-126 block in the Sirte basin, southeast of Ajdabiya in eastern Libya.

Discovered in 1968 by Mobil, the field lies about 45 kilometres east of Waha Oil's Alfaregh asset to which it is tied back.
