Acting Head of the Electoral Assistant Division, Directorate of Political Affairs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission Serigne Mamadou Ka has disclosed that a fact-finding mission will be sent to Guinea Bissau and Senegal ahead of their Parliamentary elections in the wake of dissolution of their National Assembly.

According to him it is part of their mandate to observe elections when member states are organising one.

In a telephone interview on the upcoming Guinea and Senegal Parliamentary elections, he noted that the two upcoming elections were not envisaged, knowing that there is an election calendar member states follow.

“We did not foresee the dissolution of the Parliament in Guinea Bissau and Senegal as well and it is not something that they prepared for; but now that it has happened ECOWAS will have to deploy fact finding missions to each of the countries.

And the fact-finding missions would inform their decision whether ECOWAS deploy observer mission or not and the size of the observer mission, he added.
